Mangal Unicode vs Kruti Dev Font: Which Hindi Keyboard Layout to Learn?

One of the biggest confusions for Indian government job aspirants is choosing between **Mangal Unicode** and **Kruti Dev 010** fonts for Hindi typing. Learning the wrong font layout can cost months of effort.

1. What is Kruti Dev 010? Kruti Dev is a legacy non-Unicode font. It maps English QWERTY key shapes directly to Hindi character shapes. - **Where Used**: Allahabad High Court, UP Police, UPSSSC legacy exams. - **Pros**: Traditional printing presses and old government departments used it extensively. - **Cons**: Non-Unicode. Text typed in Kruti Dev looks like gibberish English if transferred to another computer without Kruti Dev font installed.

2. What is Mangal Font (Unicode)? Mangal is the official Microsoft Unicode Devanagari font. It supports two primary keyboard layouts: 1. **Remington GAIL Layout**: Mimics the traditional mechanical Hindi typewriter key layout on top of Mangal font. 2. **Inscript Layout**: The standardized Indian government layout designed by C-DAC.

- **Where Used**: SSC CHSL/CGL, MP CPCT, Delhi Subordinate Services (DSSSB), Railway RRB NTPC, Central Ministries.

Comparison Table | Feature | Kruti Dev 010 | Mangal Unicode | |---|---|---| | Encoding Standard | Legacy ASCII Mapping | Universal Unicode Standard | | SSC / Central Govt Exams | Not Accepted | Mandatory / Standard | | High Court Exams | Allahabad HC, UP Police | Delhi HC, MP HC, Bihar HC | | Web Compatibility | Low (requires custom font file) | High (Native on Windows/Android/iOS) |

Recommendation If preparing for **SSC, CPCT, or Railway**, learn **Mangal Font with Remington GAIL or Inscript layout**. If specifically targeting **UP State exams / Allahabad High Court**, check the official notification before deciding.
